Job Summary
Develop new technologies and explore novel pathways for gene synthesis, leading the R&D of next-generation high-throughput, low-cost, and high-fidelity gene synthesis technological roadmaps. Tackle technical challenges in synthesizing difficult sequences and long-fragment genes while optimizing existing process workflows to improve efficiency and reduce costs. Conduct comprehensive technical analysis and resolution of issues encountered during development, and stay current with R&D trends through regular literature reviews. This Scientist III role at Azenta Life Sciences supports global multiomics services across drug development and cell therapies, leveraging a lab analysis infrastructure managing over one billion samples.
Required Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or related fields
- Master's degree with at least 6 years of extensive experience in the gene synthesis field
- Proficiency in gene cloning
- Plasmid extraction
- E. coli transformation and culture
- PCR/qPCR
- In-depth understanding of the principles and applicability of various cloning strategies (e.g., Gibson Assembly, Golden Gate Assembly, etc.)
- Familiarity with E. coli genome editing technologies (e.g., homologous recombination, CRISPR-Cas9 systems)
- Ability to apply gene-editing tools for targeted modification of host strains to meet gene synthesis needs
- Capability to resolve complex sequence issues, such as high GC content, highly repetitive sequences, toxic genes, and large-fragment gene assembly
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
