Job Summary
Design and carry out routine and complex experiments, performing novel techniques with supervision while independently analyzing and interpreting analytical results. Maintain accurate records in electronic lab notebooks, manage your own work schedule to meet deadlines, and prepare data for reports and client presentations. Draft quality and controlled documents, mentor junior staff on basic scientific techniques, and communicate progress to your line manager and Group Director. This role within Abzena's Formulation Development team focuses on antibody and ADC characterisation, critical quality attributes, and developability studies for liquid biologics from pre-clinical through late-stage clinical stages.
Required Qualifications
- BSc or an MSc in Biochemistry/Chemistry or related science discipline
- strong laboratory skills
- understanding of protein analytics
- practical research experience of analytical characterisation techniques such as high pressure liquid chromatography (SE-HPLC, IEX) and capillary electrophoresis (CE-SDS, icIEF, CZE)
- familiar with MS Office, particularly the use of Excel for data processing
- excellent level of attention to detail
- ability to identify and analyse and resolve routine and complex problems
- ability to work independently performing analytical assays to a high-quality standard
- good planning and organisational skills
- excellent communication skills both orally and in writing
- ability to interact with colleagues and clients in a professional manner
- Masters degree in life science subject
- Excellent ICT skills, including specialist software as necessary
- In-depth understanding of specialist area
- Can apply broad range of standard skills in own area
- Able to undertake evaluation of routine data
- Able to carry out repetitive manual techniques, eg pipetting
Desired Qualifications
- Relevant experience in an industrial or commercial environment
- Knowledge of specialist chromatography software such as Chromeleon
- An appreciation of protein analytics and its application in biotherapeutic drug development
- knowledge and practical experience of protein formulation development
