Job Summary
Scientist I at RES supports field data collection, environmental monitoring, and ecological assessments for restoration and mitigation projects. Fieldwork accounts for up to 50% of time with most assignments involving overnight travel (travel covered by the company). Day-to-day duties include collecting data in the field (soil samples, vegetation surveys), using GPS to mark locations, entering data into Excel or databases, processing site photos/maps, and contributing notes for technical reports. You will work under the guidance of senior scientists and project managers, gaining exposure to environmental regulations, ecosystems, and scientific best practices. This entry-level role is ideal for a recent graduate or early-career professional in environmental science, ecology, or natural resources seeking hands-on field experience and growth. The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, biology, ecology, geology, natural resources, or a related field and 0–2 years of field experience; willingness to work outdoors in varying conditions and travel occasionally.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, biology, ecology, geology, natural resources, or a related field
- 0–2 years of field experience (internships, academic fieldwork, or volunteer work allowed)
- Basic knowledge of scientific methods, data collection using GPS and/or GIS tools, and safe field practices
- Familiarity with ecological concepts such as native species, soil profiles, or hydrology
- Ability to work outdoors in varying conditions and terrain
- Strong written communication skills for data documentation and reporting
- Attention to detail and commitment to high-quality data collection
- Strong work ethic and reliability in team-based fieldwork
- Exposure to wetland, stream, or habitat assessments
- Experience with field sampling equipment, inventories, or monitoring protocols
- Understanding of regional environmental regulations and permitting
