Job Summary
Conduct laboratory-based translational research focusing on drug development for cancer treatment by studying cultured human and animal cell lines and analyzing tissues. Operate advanced genetic, biological, and biochemical assays including DNA transfection, kinase assays, and confocal microscopy to generate technical reports. Initiate and design new projects and assays supporting external collaborators and NCI in advancing therapeutics and vaccines. Interpret analysis results to identify methodological pitfalls and redirect studies for improved outcomes. Collaborate with scientific staff and statisticians across NCI, NIH, and extramural institutions to address key research questions regarding immune cells and tumor models. Prepare data sets and draft papers for first-author publication in peer-reviewed journals. Present findings at conferences and participate in committees establishing field policy.
Required Qualifications
- PhD in Biology, Life Sciences, or related fields
- Minimum of TWO (2) years of laboratory research experience in the areas of immunology, molecular biology, or similar disciplines
- Expertise in mouse handling procedures, such as administering intraperitoneal and intravenous injections, tumor measurements, and dissections
- Experience with immunology research techniques, such as multiparameter flow cytometry processing and data analysis, and in vitro functional assays
- Proficiency in molecular biology techniques, such as DNA/RNA extraction and quantification, gel electrophoresis, western blotting, polymerase chain reaction, and immunoprecipitation
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Federal or DoD 'public trust'; candidates must receive approved adjudication prior to onboarding with Guidehouse
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with confocal microscopy
- Knowledge of proper laboratory techniques, disposal methods, safety procedures, and universal precautions
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to work independently on projects
- Excellent analytical, organizational, interpersonal, and time management skills
- Strong communications skills, both oral and written
- Ability to learn new techniques and teach known techniques to others
