Job Summary
Lead Principal Scientist to develop advanced molecular diagnostics technologies. Synthesize, purify, and characterize complex nucleotides, phosphoramidites, oligonucleotides, their analogs, and related small molecule reagents; drive process optimization to enable efficient scale-up and successful product launches. Provide analytical-method support spanning R&D and Operations, design and execute advanced troubleshooting experiments, and develop assays that push system understanding and error detection. Manage knowledge handoffs of prototype methods and assist in transferring comprehensive documentation from research to development and manufacturing teams. Serve as a subject-matter expert across R&D and operations with strong collaboration and communication skills. The position requires Ph.D. or equivalent with extensive experience, and is located in Pleasanton, CA; salary ranges from $111,000 to $206,500 with potential discretionary bonus.
Required Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Biology, Medical Chemistry (or related field) with at least 2+ years of industry experience; OR Master’s Degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Biology, Medical Chemistry (or related field) with 5+ years of industry experience
- Experience in UPLC/HPLC, ion pair chromatography, ion exchange, advanced mass spectrometry, absorption spectroscopy, and fluorescence spectroscopy
- Knowledge of nucleotides, phosphoramidites, oligonucleotides (including post-synthetic modification) and related small molecule reagents
- Strong understanding of DNA, RNA, modified oligonucleotides, and PCR methodologies
- Strong analytical and data/documentation skills; ability to develop and optimize sophisticated analytical assays; demonstrated problem-solving and cross-functional collaboration
