Job Summary
Scientist 1 participates in multi-disciplinary projects with biochemists, materials & surface scientists, bioinformatics scientists, and engineers to develop new next-generation sequencing products. Executes planned experiments and analysis of moderate to advanced complexity, performs chemical and biochemical testing, collects and analyzes large data sets, and distills key conclusions in consultation with project leaders. Communicates findings in technical meetings, works independently with minimal supervision, and contributes ideas to meet project goals. This role is based in the United States (San Diego, CA) with a base salary range of $62,900–$94,300 and potential eligibility for variable compensation and benefits.
Required Qualifications
- Typically requires BSc: 0 to 2 years of relevant experience
- Preferred majors: Biochemistry, Chemistry, Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, Biophysics or other related disciplines
- Experience in nucleic acid biochemistry and DNA amplification technologies
- Hands-on experience with analytical instrumentations and methods for characterization of molecules and biomolecules (e.g., pH meters, qPCR, gel electrophoresis, microscopy, UV-Vis and fluorescence spectroscopy)
- Working knowledge of statistics (statistical significance, replicates, controls)
- Excellent communication skills
- Strong organization and detail orientation
- Motivated, enthusiastic, hard-working, team-oriented
- Preferred: NGS sequencing & library constructions, enzyme characterization methods (HPLC, DLS, DSF, Bioanalyzer, Thermal Melt, Chemical Melt), Coding
