Job Summary
Scientific Leader, Lab Operations — a senior-level, multi-site leader responsible for end-to-end laboratory testing operations with full P&L ownership. Oversees daily multi-site lab activities, standardizes SOPs, capacity planning, and resource allocation; drives continuous improvement (Lean, Six Sigma) to optimize throughput and turnaround time; ensures scientific integrity and regulatory compliance (ISO 17025, CAP, CLIA, A2LA or equivalents); leads cross-site teams (typically 25–100+ FTEs); partners with HR, sales, and client services for capacity, pricing, and client retention; stays current on regulatory changes and leads validation/implementation of new testing platforms; champions accreditation maintenance and data integrity across reporting sites; fosters a culture of performance, psychological safety, and professional development while coordinating with governance bodies and accounts.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher in a scientific discipline (Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, Biochemistry, or related field)
- 7+ years of progressive laboratory operations experience
- at least 3 years in a multi-site leadership role
- Demonstrated P&L ownership with full budget accountability in a laboratory or technical services environment
- Proven track record leading teams of 20+ across geographically dispersed locations
- Experience in any testing environment: environmental, food, pharmaceutical/bioanalytical, clinical, materials, genomics, or equivalent regulated laboratory sector
- Strong working knowledge of laboratory accreditation standards and applicable regulatory frameworks
- Demonstrated ability to implement operational improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, or equivalent)
