Job Summary
Plan and provide appropriate learning experiences for students through demonstrations, lectures, discussions, and student experiments. Instruct students in the proper use, care, and safe handling of chemicals, science equipment, and living specimens while monitoring the appropriate use of all materials and facilities. Organize laboratory activities for optimum learning and develop, select, and modify instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students. Provide individual or small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to student needs and accommodate simultaneous projects. Communicate and interact with students, parents, staff, and the community while maintaining appropriate records and following required procedures. Serve on special committees and strive to maintain professional competence within a 10-month employment term.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher
- meets Licensure requirements as established by the Maryland State Department of Education
- Other experience as established by Maryland Law and Board of Education policy
- Knowledge of subject matter
- appropriate instructional methodologies
- exemplary human relation skills
- exemplary organizational and planning skills
- ability to work effectively with students, parents and staff
- ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations
- ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10-50 pounds
- good hand-eye coordination
- arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp
- visual acuity to use a keyboard
- ability to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear
