Job Summary
Teach 2nd grade students in Spanish, covering literacy, language arts, mathematics, social studies, and science using district curriculum maps. Create a positive, language-rich, asset-based, multicultural learning environment conducive to all students. Administer language and literacy assessments, analyze student data to inform planning, and develop targeted instruction. Collaborate in building-based and department staff meetings while working as a vested member of the dual language team on program issues. Thoughtfully plan lessons with grade-level partners to meet diverse student needs and foster cultural understanding. Participate in district and school-based dual language professional development beginning in Spring 2024. This role supports the Compañeros Spanish-English Dual Language Program at Harrington and Connery Elementary Schools, helping to build the foundation for dual language programming across Lynn Public Schools.
Required Qualifications
- Valid license from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Early Childhood PreK-2 or Elementary Grades 1-6
- High levels of academic proficiency and literacy in both program languages (Spanish and English)
- Assessed academic proficiency and fluency in Spanish (current DESE-approved tests include the Spanish MTEL and the Oral Proficiency Interview and Writing Proficiency Test through ACTFL)
- Willingness to pursue DESE Bilingual Education Endorsement
- SEI Endorsement as approved by Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education
- Willingness to participate in district and school-based dual language professional development beginning in Spring 2024 and continuing throughout the summer and upcoming school year
- Understanding of and a strong commitment to the philosophy of dual language learning and teaching
- Successful experience teaching young learners between ages five and seven
- Strong organizational skills, time-management and communication skills
- Demonstrates a high level of cooperation to work with grade level and dual language teams
- Fulfillment of Lynn Public Schools district requirements
- Successful completion of a pre-employment physical
- Completion of a drug test
- Completion of a National fingerprint-based Criminal Background Check (NCBC)
- Completion of a Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI)
Desired Qualifications
