Job Summary
Provide direct services to students through counseling, crisis intervention, and group work. Conduct assessments and develop intervention plans for students with social, emotional, and behavioral needs. Collaborate with school personnel to implement programs that promote a positive school climate. Consult with teachers, parents, and community agencies to address student concerns and provide families with education on parenting skills and resources. Maintain accurate records of services and progress while participating in school-based teams. Stay current on best practices in school social work. This role supports the social, emotional, and academic success of over 1,600 students from preschool through 12th grade at Summit Academy North in Romulus, MI.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in Social Work from an accredited program
- Valid state licensure as a school social worker
- Temporary or full approval as a social worker
- Experience working with children and families in a school setting
- Knowledge of social, emotional, and behavioral issues that impact student success
- Ability to work collaboratively with school personnel, families, and community agencies
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards
- Flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
- Occasionally lift/move objects weighing up to 25lbs
- Stand and walk frequently
- Occasionally sit on the floor or bend down/squat
- Withstand all demands presented by outside weather conditions at any time of the year
- Withstand a moderate noise level
- Be able to perform first aid/CPR if necessary
- Assist/lift students, as necessary
- Regular and predictable attendance
