Job Summary
Provide direct services to students, such as counseling, crisis intervention, and group work. Conduct assessments and develop intervention plans for students with social, emotional, and behavioral needs. Collaborate with school personnel to implement programs that promote a positive school climate. Consult with teachers, parents, and community agencies to address student needs, while providing support and education to families on parenting skills and community resources. Maintain accurate records of services and student progress. Participate in school-based teams and committees to address student needs and promote school-wide initiatives. Stay current on best practices in school social work. Maintain a safe and positive environment for all students through effective communication with students, parents, and school staff.
Required Qualifications
- Michigan teacher certification and endorsement in the subject
- Master's degree in Social Work from an accredited program
- Valid state licensure as a school social worker
- Temporary or full approval as a social worker
- Experience working with children and families in a school setting
- Knowledge of social, emotional, and behavioral issues that impact student success
- Ability to work collaboratively with school personnel, families, and community agencies
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards
- Flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
- Must be able to lift/move objects weighing up to 25lbs
- Must be able to stand and walk frequently
- Must be able to sit on the floor or bend down/squat occasionally
- Must be able to withstand all demands presented by outside weather conditions at any time of the year
- Must be able to withstand a moderate noise level
- Must be able to perform first aid/CPR if necessary
- Must be able to assist/lift students, as necessary
- Regular and predictable attendance
