Job Summary
School Social Worker Intern provides ethical, professional support within a K-12 setting under a licensed field supervisor. Responsibilities include participating in multidisciplinary teams, assisting with social histories and behavioral assessments, supporting IEP/504 processes, delivering individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, and data-informed practice. The internship offers direct supervision, culturally responsive practice, and experiences aligned with PA HELPS and PDE requirements, with a minimum of 450 hours over a one-year contract in CSIU programs. The role emphasizes collaboration with families, schools, and agencies, and adherence to confidentiality and professional standards. The position is a contracted internship with a yearly stipend and does not guarantee employment at expiration. Locations noted: Sunbury, PA.
Required Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a CSWE-approved Master of Social Work (MSW) program to obtain a MSW
- Enrolled in PDE-approved program to complete requirements for the 1851-School Social Worker PK-12 Educational Specialist certification
- Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, or related field preferred
- Excellent organization, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
- Interest in working with children and youth
- Motivated to learn, take initiative, and work independently
- Ability to establish cooperative working relationships
- Computer experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, data entry, email; Google Drive
- Experience with virtual meeting platforms (e.g., Skype, Zoom, Microsoft Teams)
- Maintain confidentiality per FERPA requirements
- Ability to travel to various school district buildings and CSIU locations
- Attendance is required; supervisor approval of absences
- Background clearances (Act 34, Act 151, Act 114) and FBI fingerprint clearances; Mandated Reporter Training certificate
