Job Summary
School Social Worker in ChanceLight's Special Education program for the 2026-2027 school year. Provides individual and group counseling to support students experiencing social, emotional, or family-related challenges; conducts comprehensive interviews with students, families, and staff; develops and updates IEPs and BIPs; attends IEP team meetings; collaborates with educators, families, and community professionals; performs case management including coordination of parent meetings and emergency transportation; maintains documentation and records; monitors student progress through data collection and analysis; conducts crisis assessments and coordinates interventions; stays current with best practices in school social work and special education; supports staff with classroom management and transition planning; fosters positive relationships with students, families, teachers, and district partners.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree or higher in social work or a closely related field
- Licensing and/or credential requirements vary by state and/or program and may include: LCSW | LMSW | SSW
- Ability to obtain and maintain certification in company approved crisis management training
- Prior experience working with children as social worker, preferably in an alternative, special education and/or behavioral health program setting
- Highly skilled in working with individuals with severe learning disabilities, emotional disturbance, autism spectrum disorders, behavioral challenges and/or other related disabilities
- Prior experience and/or highly knowledgeable in working with students with individualized education plans (IEP's)
- Knowledge of applied behavior analysis (ABA) including positive behavior interventions and supports (PBIS), effective teaching strategies, classroom management systems, data-based decision making, and functional analysis/behavior intervention plans
- Highly skilled in building and maintaining effective relationships with students, parents, teachers and community and/or district partners
- Ability to think and act quickly and calmly in an emergency situation and make independent decisions
- Advanced oral and written communication, organization, conflict resolution, multitasking, problem solving, and decision-making ability
- Knowledge of relevant technology including experience with computers, Microsoft Office Suite, database entry and basic office equipment
