Job Summary
Conduct surveillance of school buildings, grounds, and activities by patrolling hallways, stairwells, restrooms, and parking areas while checking windows, doors, and entrances. Provide student supervision throughout the day, screen and sign-in visitors, and deter unauthorized persons by escorting them from premises or monitoring vehicle access. Maintain visual presence at the main entrance, operate electronic visitor management and alarm systems, monitor CCTV cameras and emergency radios, and perform metal detection and x-ray screenings. Escort disruptive students, assist with safety drills and emergency evacuations, support crisis management responses, and help load/unload buses and manage parent drop-offs. Report suspicious conditions to administration and assist with after-school events on an assigned, flexible schedule.
Required Qualifications
- Graduation from high school or possession of a GED
- Sixteen hours of training with professional training from DCJS
- Practical knowledge and understanding of child growth and development
- Awareness of rules and regulations of the Williamsburg- James City County Public Schools, including the Student Code of Conduct
- Ability to establish and maintain a professional working relationship with students, staff, and faculty in a variety of situations
- Ability to write summary reports of security incidents or breaches of established rules and procedures
- Possess basic computer proficiency skills (e.g., using email, Microsoft Word, etc.)
- Focused on building positive relationships, communication skills, crisis de-escalation and physical intervention for safety
- Ability to stand for long periods of time
- Ability to work in various types of environmental conditions
- Ability to walk/run, stoop/bend
- Ability to hear at normal levels
- Good eye sight to include peripheral, color perception, focus and depth perception
- Good physical condition
- Must have the ability to lift/move 40 lbs
Desired Qualifications
- Sixteen hours of training with professional training from DCJS (preferred); must complete training within 60 days of initial hire date. This training component includes, but is not limited to, Non-violent Crisis Intervention training.
