Job Summary
Patrol and monitor interior and exterior buildings to ensure student, staff, and visitor safety while enforcing access control measures and preventing unauthorized entry. Respond to calls for assistance, including disruptive incidents, medical emergencies, and fires, utilizing de-escalation techniques to resolve behavioral issues and restore order. Establish a visible presence to deter incidents, direct visitors, and operate CCTV systems to identify potential threats. Investigate and document incidents, assist staff in crisis drills, and provide traffic direction as required. Maintain strict confidentiality, report suspected child abuse, and serve as a positive role model for students and staff. Work 182 days following the district calendar, with availability for voluntary and forced overtime.
Required Qualifications
- excellent integrity and good moral character and initiative
- current sworn member of an organized local police department or the CT. State Police
- retired, sworn police officer from an organized local police department or the CT. State Police
- retired, sworn federal law enforcement agent and/or a sworn officer of an organized police department in another state who was certified under standards that meet or exceed the standards of the Police Officer Standards and Training Council for certification in this state and who retired or separated in good standing from such department
- Minimum of 10 years prior law enforcement experience
- positive references from each prior employer served in a law enforcement capacity
- proof of an honorable discharge (if the candidate has prior service with the military)
- not have been officially found to be unqualified for reasons relating to mental health by a qualified medical professional while serving as a sworn law enforcement officer or separating from service as a sworn law enforcement officer
- participate in and pass a full background investigation required by the Board or by State or Federal law
- maintain all certifications and training as mandated by CT General Statutes and Ridgefield School District
- certifications in CPR & AED
- High school diploma or equivalent
- valid driver's license
- Reliably commute to assigned work site
- Ten years of successful experience in a law enforcement agency
- Ability to maintain flexible working hours
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree
- Coursework in criminal justice or in a related field
