School Security Guard

Job Summary
Monitor building access points and patrol school grounds, parking lots, and surrounding areas to detect and prevent unsafe activity. Respond to incidents of misconduct, altercations, or safety concerns by de-escalating situations and notifying administration. Support emergency preparedness efforts including fire and lockdown drills, and assist with student supervision during arrival, dismissal, and school events. Maintain accurate logs and incident reports while enforcing district policies regarding trespassing and prohibited items. Collaborate with administrators and staff to foster a secure climate and assist with traffic safety during special events. Obtain and maintain required Pennsylvania clearances, including child abuse history checks and criminal background reports.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Ability to interact effectively and appropriately with children and adolescents
- Strong communication, observation, and conflict-resolution skills
- Ability to remain calm and exercise sound judgment in high-stress or emergency situations
- Ability to stand, walk, and patrol facilities for extended periods, including stair use and outdoor patrol in all weather conditions
- PA Child Abuse History Clearance (Act 151)
- PA State Police Criminal Record Check (Act 34)
- FBI Criminal Background Check / Fingerprinting (Act 114)
- Act 24 Arrest/Conviction Report & Certification
- Act 168 Sexual Misconduct/Abuse Disclosure Release
- Mandated Reporter Training
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Valid PA driver's license (if applicable to role)
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
- Ability to climb stairs
- Ability to respond quickly to emergency situations
- Ability to occasionally lift/move up to 25 lbs.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
Desired Qualifications
- Prior experience in security, law enforcement, corrections, military service, or a related field
