Job Summary
Enforce state statutes, protect life and property, and suppress criminal activity within the assigned school district while regulating non-criminal conduct and preserving public peace. Prepare accurate reports for crimes, vehicular accidents, and incidents; maintain assigned equipment; and assist injured persons with appropriate action. Conduct parent conferences regarding student violations, communicate with community, staff, parents, and students to resolve conflicts, and provide referrals for incidents outside jurisdiction. Maintain confidentiality of records, adhere to the Professional Code of Ethics, and participate in required training to obtain and maintain Peace Officers Professional Standards Certification. Remain at work during the entire day unless excused, maintain regular attendance, and incorporate technology into daily tasks.
Required Qualifications
- Must be POPS certified
- Valid Kentucky driver's license
- Ability to obtain a Kentucky Peace Officers Professional Standards Certification within one year of hire and to maintain thereafter
- School Resource Officer (SRO) training, certification, and commission as required by provisions of KRS Chapters 15, 61, and 158
- Any combination equivalent to: high school diploma, G.E.D. Certificate or demonstrated progress toward obtaining a G.E.D. as required by Kentucky law supplemented by specialized course work in law enforcement
- Elements and appropriate application of state statutes
- Geographic area, District facilities, school personnel and community members of assigned District
- Applicable sections of the Kentucky Administrative Regulations, K.R.S., and other applicable case law
- Laws, rules and regulations related to assigned activities
- Basic first aid
- Ability to perform a variety of law enforcement duties at an assigned District
- Ability to prepare and maintain accurate and complete reports of crimes, vehicular accidents and other incidents
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Ability to work cooperatively with others
- Ability to determine appropriate action within clearly defined guidelines
- Ability to read, interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information
- Each School Resource Officer shall be armed with a firearm not withstanding any provision of local board policy, local school council policy, or memorandum of agreement
