Job Summary
Lead after-school groups of 10-20 youth by planning daily schedules, organizing age-appropriate activities, and providing academic enrichment and tutoring. Oversee participants with positive role modeling, maintain accurate records, and ensure program attendance goals are met. Recruit students and parents, collaborate with school personnel, and guide students while monitoring behavior and ensuring safety. Assist in setting up classrooms and distribute snacks as needed. Report student progress to the Site Supervisor and attend required meetings and trainings.
Required Qualifications
- Must be one-year removed from high school graduation
- Three years removed from graduation/matriculation from SUHSD school you are applying to
- Must meet and provide documentation of the minimum qualifications for Classroom Assistant if candidate does not have 48 college credits
- Must be highly dependable
- Must have a warm and friendly personality
- Must have the sensitivity to meet the needs of a diverse population
- Must have the ability to lead sports, games and curriculum activities
- Must have the ability to monitor behavior
- Must have the ability to provide leadership and stability to the program
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position during shift
- Must be able to move throughout the building
- Must be able to move, raise, or lower an object or equipment up to 50 lbs
- Must be able to transport an object from 20 to 50 lbs across the facility
- Must be able to exert force upon an object so that the object moves away from the force
- Must be able to exert force upon an object so that the object moves toward the force
- Must be able to ascend or descend stairs and ladders
- Must have body agility
- Must be able to balance and maintain body equilibrium
- Must be able to stoop and bend body downward and forward
- Must be able to handle, seize, hold, grasp, turn, or work with objects or office machinery
- Must be able to communicate and exchange ideas
- Must be able to convey detailed or important instructions to other workers accurately or quickly
- Must be able to work under deadlines, various projects, and dealing with clients in crisis and difficult situations
- Must be able to respond to critical incidents
- Must be able to act in an emergency situation
- Must complete satisfactory background clearances including Department of Justice criminal background check requiring fingerprints (Live Scan)
- Must pass screening through the National Sex Offender Public Website
- Must pass tuberculosis (TB) test
Desired Qualifications
- AA or BA is highly desirable
- Passing score on district's Instructional Assistant Test is acceptable
- Minimum of one year working with youth and/or children is highly desirable
