Job Summary
School Principal at Foothills Correctional Institution (Morganton, NC): lead the school’s daily operations, supervise staff, oversee academic programs and budget, ensure compliance with district, NCDAC, and NCDPI policies, and collaborate with institutional leadership and community college partners to expand student access to educational and vocational courses for Youth School (up to age 22) and Education Services (22+). Responsibilities include developing and evaluating educational programs, providing professional development, establishing routines, and maintaining alignment with the School Improvement Plan and district goals; strong instructional leadership, data-informed decision making, and effective communication with stakeholders are required.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree or higher in an area relevant to this position
- Current (non-expired) North Carolina State Professional Educator’s License (Class Code M, S, or D) with certification in the area of School Principal or be eligible to obtain Provisional Certification
- Experience leading educational programs and supervising staff
- Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with subordinates, colleagues, institution personnel, supervisors, leadership, and community college partners
- Knowledge of state requirements and district goals; ability to align programs with School Improvement Plan and district policies
- Strong oral and written communication skills and capability to present to large groups
- Commitment to safety, inclusivity, and positive school climate
- Experience evaluating student progress and data analysis to inform instruction
- Familiarity with governance and administrative responsibilities within a correctional-education setting
