Job Summary
Prepare and serve institutional meals, wash fresh and canned fruit, measure ingredients for salads, and prepare specialty and vegetable dishes. Operate and clean kitchen equipment, wash dishes, and sanitize work areas. Count money for petty cash, open registers, and reconcile daily records. Stock food and supplies, complete daily records, and assist in creating an inviting atmosphere for customers and staff. Work long hours standing in a moderately noisy location, occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED/HiSET
- General kitchen experience
- Ability to adjust to new and changing situations
- Ability to get along well with others
- Ability to assist in creating an inviting atmosphere for customers and staff
- Ability to read and write
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to work quickly with hands and complete assignments in time allotted
- General knowledge of materials and methods used in preparing meats, breads, vegetables, and other foods on a large scale
- General knowledge of the use and care of utensils and equipment
- General knowledge of food values and nutrition
- Skill in the use of standardized recipes and specialized kitchen utensils and equipment
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates
- Ability to work long hours while standing and under high temperature conditions
- Regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force
- Frequent exertion of up to 25 pounds of force
- Occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force
- Standard vision requirements
- Vocal communication
- Hearing
- Visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts
- Use of measuring devices
