School Nutrition Line Cashier (6 Hours)

Job Summary
Collect monies from students and adults during meal times using a point of sale computer with speed and accuracy. Verify reimbursable meals against federal meal pattern requirements and balance the cash drawer at the end of service. Perform daily cooking, serving, and cleaning duties while maintaining inventory systems for food and supplies. Relate well to students to promote the school nutrition program and manage parent correspondence regarding student accounts. Follow all local, state, and federal health and safety guidelines while operating in an indoor kitchen environment. Attend recommended training sessions and wear approved uniforms.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Ability to lift and move objects weighing a maximum of 50 pounds
- Ability to stand for the duration of the workday, allowing for breaks as outlined in the School Nutrition Employee Handbook
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
- Ability to read, write, and comprehend simple instructions, correspondence and memos
- Basic human relations skills needed to work cooperatively in close proximity with others under constant deadlines
- Ability to follow food sanitation procedures
- Ability to learn meal pattern requirements for child nutrition programs
- Ability to learn prescribed food preparation methods and school cafeteria operations
- Ability to retrieve necessary menu items and recipe ingredients
- Ability to perform basic math
- Ability to learn the point of sale software program
- Some knowledge of food preparation
- Must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints
- Must be able to lift and/or move up to 40 pounds on a daily basis
- Excellent fine motor skills
- Must be able to stand for approximately 6-8 hours
- Required to sit and stoop, kneel, or crouch
- Local travel to meetings and alternate work assignments as required
- Must be able to drive a vehicle to and from school sites when directed to work at an alternate school site
- Must be able to work in temperatures above 90 degrees and below 0 degrees
- Must be able to walk on slippery surfaces
- Must maintain composure in stressful situations
- Must be able to work in an indoor kitchen environment with exposure to heat from ovens, hot foods and steamers and cleaning chemicals, fumes, equipment, and metal objects
- Must be able to work around knives, dicers, mixers, slicers and other sharp objects
- Must be able to work with work surfaces that may be slippery
- Must be able to handle the risk of getting a minor injury (cut or burn) while performing duties of this job
- Must be able to interact with public and other workers
- Must be able to wear only approved uniforms and shoes to work
Desired Qualifications
- Previous experience as a cashier preferred
