Job Summary
Assist the School Nutrition Manager in overseeing kitchen operations to ensure nutritious, attractive meals are prepared, served on schedule, and maintained in a clean, safe environment. Perform routine food service tasks including inventory, food preparation/production, temperature checks, serving, cashiering, and sanitation while complying with USDA requirements and HACCP protocols. Maintain records of foods used, produced, served, and leftovers; follow standardized recipes; operate kitchen equipment safely; monitor cash handling and deposits; support cross-training across roles; and may serve as Person in Charge in the manager’s absence. May drive a school bus as needed and hold/maintain a Commercial Driver’s License. Requirements include a High School Diploma or GED with 1–2 years of institutional food preparation experience, physical ability to lift and maneuver equipment, and strong interpersonal and record-keeping skills.
Required Qualifications
- A High School Diploma or GED and 1 to 2 years of experience in the preparation of foods in an institutional setting or childcare; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Desired Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- 1 to 2 years of experience in institutional food preparation or childcare
- Knowledge of HACCP, USDA meal patterns, and food safety practices
- Ability to operate commercial kitchen equipment
- Capacity to handle cash handling and POS transactions
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, stand for long periods, and perform physical tasks as required
- Good math and record-keeping abilities
- Effective communication and teamwork skills
