Job Summary
Assess health complaints, administer medications, and manage emergencies for students with special needs. Lead mandated health screenings, verify immunizations, and create individualized care and emergency plans. Monitor chronic conditions affecting educational achievement and submit required state surveys. Participate in nurse meetings, CSE Committees, and staff development while representing the school on building teams. Adhere to FERPA/HIPPA regulations and district protocols under the direction of the District Physician. Monitor health office equipment, order supplies, and implement concussion management protocols. Provide direct care, screenings, referrals, and in-services to promote student health. Serve as a liaison between families, school personnel, and health professionals.
Required Qualifications
- Must possess and maintain a current license as a Registered Professional Nurse issued by the State of New York
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work as a member of a team
- Diligent record keeping skills
- Maintains student confidentiality and adheres to FERPA/HIPPA regulations
Desired Qualifications
- Training or experience in working with children with various disabilities
- School health experience working with middle school aged students
- Clinical nursing experience or background
- Experience working with students with chronic health conditions
- Relevant experience to this setting and position
