Job Summary
Assess health complaints, administer medications, and manage emergencies for students with special needs. Lead mandated health screenings, immunization verification, and infectious disease monitoring while creating individualized care and emergency plans. Identify and address chronic health conditions affecting educational achievement, ensuring accurate documentation and FERPA/HIPPA compliance. Participate in nurse meetings, CSE Committees, and staff development, representing the school on building and district teams. Monitor health office equipment, order supplies, and assist in concussion management and athlete physical verifications. Provide direct care, screenings, referrals, and health policy leadership while serving as a liaison between families, staff, and health professionals.
Required Qualifications
- Must possess and maintain a current license as a Registered Professional Nurse issued by the State of New York
Desired Qualifications
- Training or experience in working with children with various disabilities
- School health experience working with middle school aged students
- Clinical nursing experience or background
- Experience working with students with chronic health conditions
- Relevant experience to this setting and position
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work as a member of a team
- Diligent record keeping skills
- Maintains student confidentiality and adheres to FERPA/HIPPA regulations
