Job Summary
Plan the school health program and assess injuries and illnesses to administer first aid, treat minor injuries, and manage acute sickness. Administer medications and immunizations while maintaining student health records and ensuring confidentiality. Promote wellness through health education and collaborate with parents, doctors, and community agencies to meet student needs. Monitor attendance, report incidents, and assist the Principal in preparing the school health budget. Order, inventory, and oversee the storage of first aid supplies and equipment. Submit accurate reports to the Virginia Department of Education and attend required meetings with administrators.
Required Qualifications
- Possession of a valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) in Virginia
- At least one (1) year of supervised nursing experience in community or child health
- Current certifications in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and first aid from a recognized provider
- Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time
- Must exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone and enter data into a computer
- Must see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids
- Must hear and understand speech at normal levels, outdoors and on the telephone
- Must speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in person, outdoors, and on the phone
- Must have physical agility to lift to 25 pounds
- Must be able to bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, walk, and reach overhead

Desired Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in nursing, public health nursing, or other nursing programs
- A certification in school nursing, community health/public health nursing, family nurse practitioner, or pediatric/school nurse practitioner from a nationally recognized professional nursing organization
