Job Summary
Administer medications to students, provide emergency first aid, and monitor ongoing health care in the school program. Maintain medication carts, medication administration records, and nursing supplies while enforcing infection control practices and universal precautions. Manage student health records, including physicals, immunizations, and special needs documentation, and complete yearly immunization surveys for the New York State Health Department. Participate in intake processes and IEP meetings, notify parents of unwell students, and consult with families and school districts regarding health concerns. Report adverse reactions to treatments and refer students to specialists as needed. Serve as a liaison to community resources and adhere to state and local regulatory requirements in school settings.
Required Qualifications
- Current Licensed Registered Nurse in the State of NY
- Must have a current NYS driver's license, free of moving violations; deemed acceptable by our insurance carrier
- Possess verbal and written communication skills, in English, to ensure adequate regulatory documentation
- Have the ability to lift up to 50 lbs., bend, squat, bend the knees, pivot and grasp with both hands
- Have the ability to lift individuals by using appropriate techniques, including but not limited to usage of equipment to assist, such as the Hoyer Lift
- Have the ability to assist individuals in ambulation by providing physical assistance, including use of a gait belt or other equipment where necessary
- Have the ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time
- Have the ability to push, pull, and maneuver students in wheelchairs
Desired Qualifications
- Preferred experience working with children/young adults with developmental disabilities with special needs
- Knowledge of applicable regulations, OCFS, OPWDD, NYSED
