Job Summary
Provide high-level nursing care for sick and injured students and staff, administering life-saving medications and performing complex medical procedures like blood glucose monitoring and tube feedings. Act as the primary responder for building medical emergencies, coordinate hearing and vision screenings, and manage referrals to ensure follow-up care. Create and maintain individualized healthcare plans, emergency action plans, and 504 plans for students with chronic conditions, while supervising Building Health Aides and educating staff on disease trends. Maintain accurate electronic health records in compliance with HIPAA and FERPA, report illness patterns to health departments, and drive to various school sites or events as needed. This role ensures district compliance with Ohio Department of Health mandates and supports student attendance and achievement through proactive case management and family collaboration.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution
- Valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Ohio
- Valid Ohio Pupil Services License (School Nurse) issued by the Ohio Department of Education & Workforce (ODEW)
- Current CPR/AED and First Aid Certification
- Experience working with pediatric populations or in a school health setting
- Knowledge of Ohio Revised Code and Ohio Department of Health regulations regarding school health
- Knowledge of National Association of School Nurses (NASN) standards of practice
- Knowledge of communicable disease surveillance and reporting requirements
- Knowledge of community health resources and social determinants of health
- Skill in pediatric clinical assessment and emergency triage
- Skill in use of medical equipment (sphygmomanometer, stethoscope, pulse oximeter, audiometer)
- Skill in Microsoft Office Suite and student information systems (PowerSchool, SchoolCare)
- Ability to exercise independent clinical judgment under pressure
- Ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders, including physicians, parents, and school administrators
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive medical and personal information
- Ability to push, pull, lift and carry over 25 pounds on occasion
- Ability to interact with unruly children
- Ability to drive to various school sites or events
