Job Summary

Oversee and coordinate district school health services by assessing student needs, providing direct nursing care for acute and chronic conditions, and administering medications per physician orders. Implement the nursing process to develop, monitor, and evaluate individualized health plans, including IHPs, 504 Plans, and Emergency Action Plans, while collaborating with physicians, families, and special education staff. Support the school-based Medicaid program by documenting eligible services, verifying billing information, and ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations. Maintain accurate health records, conduct health screenings, and provide staff training on emergency situations and medical care management.

Required Qualifications

  • Current Oregon Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing
  • Ability to practice school nursing in accordance with the Oregon Nurse Practice Act and applicable State and Federal requirements
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required certifications, training, and professional development
  • Strong organizational, communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment
  • Ability to work effectively with students, families, school personnel, medical professionals, and community agencies
  • Ability to use computers and electronic student information, health records, and documentation systems
  • Ability to understand and accurately maintain documentation required for school-based Medicaid services
  • Must be able to work effectively in a variety of environments, including classrooms, school buildings, health rooms, offices, and other District facilities
  • Must be able to use a computer and other technology for extended periods and maintain accurate electronic and written records
  • Must provide reliable transportation and be able to travel between District schools as necessary to perform assigned duties
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Must be able to stand, walk, bending, reaching, lifting, assisting students with mobility or personal care needs, and responding quickly to medical or emergency situations

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN)
  • Previous school nursing experience
  • Experience working with students receiving special education services
  • Experience with Individualized Health Plans, 504 Plans, IEPs, or other student health plans
  • Experience with school-based Medicaid programs, Medicaid documentation, or health-service billing
  • Pediatric, community health, public health, or special education nursing experience
