Job Summary
Dual-role School Nurse and Health Educator combining direct nursing care for students across all grade levels with leadership of health-education instruction (~15 hours per week). Responsibilities include administering medications and treatments per physician orders, conducting health assessments, documenting findings in electronic health records, communicating with students, families, and staff, reporting significant health events, maintaining a safe clinical environment, and leading health curricula across grade levels. Collaborates with teachers, therapists, and school leadership to integrate health content, designs age-appropriate curricula on topics such as personal hygiene, nutrition, mental health, puberty and reproductive health, safety, and student wellness, and provides front desk coverage and support for behavior management as needed. Requires NY RN (or LPN) license, 1–2 years of nursing experience, strong communication skills, and ability to adapt care for diverse learners.
Required Qualifications
- Valid New York State Registered Nurse (RN) license required; Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) accepted
- Minimum 1–2 years of clinical nursing experience
- Demonstrated comfort working with children and adolescents across multiple grade levels
- Strong communication and documentation skills
- Ability to adapt care and instruction approaches for students with diverse learning profiles and needs
- Experience delivering health education curriculum (preferred)
- Familiarity with health plans or individualized health plans (IHPs) and IEP health components (preferred)
