Job Summary
School Nurse at Newark Tech within the Essex County Schools of Technology. Provides assessment, screening, planning, intervention, evaluation, counseling, management and/or referrals for students to minimize illness-related absences and support educational opportunities. Works with health care providers, parents, district staff and community agencies; maintains comprehensive school health programs; conducts immunizations, physicals, sight and hearing testing; performs nursing assessments; updates care plans and coordinates with IEP, 504, and PPT processes; ensures accurate health records in compliance with state and federal policies; delivers health education and safety training (e.g., Heimlich maneuver, Blood Borne Pathogens); may travel between schools; requires RN licensure in NJ and CPR certification; Bachelor's degree required (Master's preferred) and pediatric experience highly desirable.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry or related science area with coursework in growth and development, health assessment, public or school health, crisis intervention and health education
- Master's degree in related field preferred
- Must meet qualifications of a school nurse as defined in state regulations
- Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) in the state
- Current CPR certification
- Experience working with pediatric population, preferably in a community or school setting
