Job Summary
Assure school health policies adhere to federal, state, and Nursing Practice Act standards while serving as a consultant to school administration. Communicate regarding program issues, state-mandated compliance requirements, and practice updates to maintain accurate medical documentation and develop timelines for health screenings. Provide case consultation, establish processes to identify student health needs, and review standard forms for the school health program. Maintain accurate records, participate in program evaluations through data collection, and attend monthly meetings, zonal meetings, and committee meetings. Coordinate Blood Borne Pathogen and Diabetes trainings, establish First Aid/CPR guidelines for staff, and represent the division on the Student Support Services Team.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Nursing (or other Bachelor of Science degree accepted by National Board for Certification of School Nurses (NBCSN).
- Thorough knowledge of federal, state, and local policies and procedures regarding School Nursing
- Considerable knowledge of current trends, publications, research and laws pertaining to HIPPA and FERPA.
- Ability to maintain complete and accurate confidential records and statistics and to develop meaningful reports from that information
- Ability to implement appropriate programs for School Nursing
- Ability to assess the effectiveness of programs and activities
- Ability to effectively express ideas orally and in writing
- Ability to make oral presentations before large groups of people
- Ability to use a computer and current word processing programs, create spreadsheets, and access online tools
- Ability to navigate online tools such as Powerschool, etc.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments
- Registered Nurse with current Licensure with NC Board of Nursing (NCBON).
- National Certification as a school nurse (within 3 years of hire date).
- Current CPR Certification
- Must possess a valid driver's license issued by the NC Department of Motor Vehicles
Desired Qualifications
- Five (5) years of experience serving as a School Nurse in a public-school setting
- Spanish Speaking
