Job Summary
Select and organize print and non-print materials to enrich the curriculum, catalog items for circulation, and maintain the card catalog. Provide instruction in library skills, assist students with research, and develop bibliographies while encouraging lifelong reading habits. Coordinate audio-visual equipment use and maintenance within budgetary limits, inventory materials periodically, and perform minor book repairs. Maintain accurate library records, prepare reports as required, and serve as a resource to administrators, faculty, staff, students, parents, and the community. Work in a climate-controlled school setting adhering to energy policies, with duties including physical restraint if necessary and mobility to various school locations.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Louisiana Teaching Certificate
- School Librarian Certification
- A certified librarian must be able to communicate in standard English both orally and in writing
- Must have ability to accurately give and receive information via tele-communication system
- Must be able to communicate successfully and pleasantly with the public
- Must be able to accurately compile and access data, summarize information and provide written report to supervisor
- Must be able to represent school system at various public functions
- Must be able to operate all library equipment
- Reaching, bending, lifting 10 pounds is sometimes required
- Ability to provide own transportation to school, work location(s) and meeting sites
- Must be able to plan and implement appropriate education programs for all students
- Must be able to understand and interpret written and verbal instructions
- Must keep accurate, up-to-date library records
- Must be able to comply with state and parish regulations
- Must be able to utilize effective classroom anagement techniques
- Must be able to work compatibly in group settings
- Must serve as a resource to administrators, faculty, staff, students, parents and community
- Must be able to respond positively to supervision and to accept suggestions for improvement
- Must be able to physically restrain another person or persons
