Job Summary
Learn to perform routine custodial duties including striping, scrubbing, mopping, sweeping, waxing, and polishing hard floors; cleaning carpets; dusting furniture; sanitizing restrooms; washing windows; emptying trash; and moving supplies. Operate and maintain powered cleaning equipment such as floor scrubbers, buffing machines, and carpet cleaners while adhering to manufacturer manuals. Perform general grounds maintenance using power blowers and pressure washers, and conduct biomedical cleaning for blood spills, pest infestations, and sanitary sewer cleanup. Assist in setting up event materials and follow emergency lockdown protocols. Report suspicious activity to safety officers. Work under close supervision with specific instructions subject to close inspection.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Ability to speak English
- Ability to operate and maintain powered cleaning equipment such as floor scrubbing, buffing, polishing machines and carpet cleaning machines in accordance with established procedures and/or manufacturer's operating manual
- Ability to perform general custodial duties such as striping, scrubbing, mopping, sweeping, waxing, and polishing hard floor surfaces; cleaning carpeted surfaces; sanitizing toilets, washrooms and fixtures; washing windows, woodwork and blinds; emptying trash receptacles, depositing trash in dumpster and dusting and polishing furniture or fixtures
- Ability to move furniture and supplies
- Ability to use small hand tools such as screw drivers, pliers, and adjustable wrenches
- Ability to understand and follow oral instructions
- Ability to read, comprehend, and apply written instructions and job-related information to include warning labels on cleaning supplies and safety instructions for all chemicals used in custodial work
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
