Job Summary
Direct or escort pedestrians across streets, stopping traffic as necessary and using hand signals to verbally direct children to cross. Discourage unsafe behavior near traffic, such as darting into the street, and create gaps in traffic flow when natural conditions do not allow safe crossing. Alert motorists to pedestrians in the street, caution drivers of speeding vehicles with whistles or signals, and record license numbers of vehicles disregarding speed limits. Observe and report incidents or safety hazards to the immediate supervisor while placing and removing caution signs and cones. Requires early morning and afternoon shifts with specific hours determined upon assignment.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or its GED equivalent
- Good moral character and reputation
- Background check
- Knowledge of traffic laws
- Knowledge of emergency procedures
- Ability to think and react independently to various situations
- Ability to use accurate judgement of traffic flow, speed and direction of travel
- Ability to prioritize activities
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing, using proper grammar and spelling
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Ability to work effectively with children, parents, and school employees
- Ability to interact members of the public in a positive manner
- Must be of good moral character and reputation
- Background check required
- Early morning and afternoon availability
