Job Summary
Watch for traffic gaps and safely walk children across roadways or intersections while holding a visible STOP sign. Monitor traffic signals, enforce basic safety practices, and maintain courteous interactions with students, parents, and the public. Stand for up to two-hour intervals and operate the stop sign under various weather conditions. Complete annual structured training and pass an extensive background check. Work Monday through Friday during the public school year, with specific hours set by the Police Administrative Services Manager.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Knowledge of how traffic signals function
- Knowledge of basic safety practices
- Ability to stand for 1 to 2 hour intervals
- Ability to work under various weather conditions
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to deal effectively and courteously with children, their parents and the general public
- Must successfully complete a structured training program annually
- Ability to arrive at post on time
- Must be able to pass an extensive background check
- No Class B misdemeanor or above conviction within the last 10 years
- No felony or family violence offense conviction at any time
- Close and distant vision
- Color vision
- Ability to adjust focus
