Job Summary
Conduct evaluation sessions with students using interviews, counseling, and aptitude assessments to advise students, guardians, parents, and teachers. Counsel individuals to overcome personal, social, and behavioral problems affecting their educational and emotional situations while providing crisis intervention for difficult school or home scenarios. Help students prepare for grade-level transitions and consult on developmental needs to determine resource priorities. Collaborate with staff to ensure academic progress, facilitate guidance curriculum integration, and maintain accurate student records per district policy. Identify domestic abuse cases and refer families to HCZ staff or outside professionals, then conduct follow-up interviews to assess needs. Complete written reports as requested and participate in program evaluation and professional trainings. This 10-month role supports the K-12 charter school's mission to break intergenerational poverty through holistic education and community empowerment.
Required Qualifications
- A valid NYS School Counseling Certificate
- Dedication and commitment to the mission of HCZ Promise Academy
- Strong organizational and communication skills, verbal and written
- Ability to work with parents, students, faculty, support staff, external government representatives, as well as school community groups
- Understanding of different student maturity levels
- Ability to help students gain awareness of their interests and abilities to help them manage their behavior and thinking processes
- Understanding of test construction and ability to interpret educational test data
- Knowledge of grade test targets
- Ability to evaluate student transcripts
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
