Job Summary
School Counselor role focused on supporting student personal-social development, mental health, academic achievement, and college/career readiness. Responsibilities include providing individual and small-group counseling on issues like personal growth, family relations, peers, health, and emotional adjustment; delivering classroom instruction aligned with ASCA standards; developing and maintaining a Comprehensive School Counseling Program; collecting and analyzing data to assess program effectiveness and equity; providing in-service training to staff; collaborating with families, teachers, administrators, and other stakeholders to promote student success; interpreting school objectives to students and the community; and ensuring effective use of technology and data-driven practices. Licensure requirements (LPC in Virginia) or eligible equivalents are noted as part of the qualifications.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree from an accredited college or university and completion of an approved school counseling program.
- Experience: Successful full-time teaching or school guidance and counseling.
- Licenses/Certifications: Eligibility for appropriate licensure.
- An active Licensed Professional Counseling (LPC) license issued by the Virginia Department of Health Professionals (DHP) may be considered in lieu of these requirements.
- In addition to the LPC, the Licensed Clinical Psychologist and the Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) may be eligible.
