Job Summary
Plan, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive developmental guidance and counseling program at the assigned campus. Counsel students to develop each student’s academic, career, personal, and social abilities and address the needs of special population students. Guiding individual students, groups, and parents to plan, monitor, and manage educational and career development including creating graduation plans and providing post-secondary information. Use developmental guidance theories and techniques to provide preventive, remedial, and crisis counseling. Coordinate school, home, and community resources; advocate for diverse student needs; interpret standardized assessments to guide goal setting; plan, implement, and promote a balanced guidance program with components for curriculum, responsive services, individual planning, and system support; follow district policies and professional standards; supervise counseling aides as applicable. Emphasizes collaboration with teachers, parents, and district staff, and commitment to a safe, diverse school environment.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in guidance counseling from an accredited college or university
- Valid Texas school counseling certificate
- Knowledge of counseling procedures, student appraisal, and career development
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
- Ability to present information in one-on-one, small group, and large group situations to students, parents, and district staff
