Job Summary
Conduct comprehensive school counseling by delivering direct services through the Guidance Curriculum, Individual Student Planning, and Preventive and Responsive Services. Develop and manage the program by creating written plans aligned with NC standards, communicating goals to stakeholders, and utilizing data to guide direction. Provide individual and group counseling for identified student needs while collaborating with parents, teachers, and administrators. Monitor student performance, behavior, and attendance to facilitate interventions, and conduct annual program audits to measure effectiveness. Participate in the Johnston County Schools Medicaid Billing Program and professional development activities. Adhere to laws, policies, and ethical standards of the profession.
Required Qualifications
- Knowledge of the North Carolina State Board of Education's guiding mission
- Knowledge of the NC Comprehensive School Counseling Standard Course of Study
- Ability to discuss the comprehensive school counseling program with the school administrator
- Ability to develop and maintain a written plan for effective delivery of the school counseling program
- Ability to communicate the goals of the comprehensive school counseling program to education stakeholders
- Ability to maintain current and appropriate resources for education stakeholders
- Ability to use data to develop comprehensive programs that meet student needs
- Ability to provide leadership and collaborate with other educators in the school-wide integration of the State Guidance Curriculum Standard Course of Study
- Ability to implement developmentally appropriate and prevention-oriented group activities to meet student needs and school goals
- Ability to incorporate life skills that students need to be successful in the twenty-first century into their programs
- Ability to assist all students, individually or in groups, with developing academic, career and personal/social skills, goals, and plans
- Ability to accurately and appropriately interpret and utilize student data
- Ability to collaborate with parents/guardians and educators to assist students with educational, career, and life planning
- Ability to provide individual and group counseling to students with identified concerns and needs
- Ability to consult and collaborate effectively with parents/guardians, teachers, administrators, and other educational/community resources regarding students with identified concerns and needs
- Ability to implement an effective referral and follow-up process as needed
- Ability to accurately and appropriately use assessment procedures for determining and structuring individual and group counseling services
- Ability to provide appropriate information to school personnel related to the comprehensive school counseling program
- Ability to assist teachers, parents/guardians, and other stakeholders in interpreting and understanding student data
- Ability to participate in professional development activities to improve knowledge and skills
- Ability to use available technology resources to enhance the school counseling program
- Ability to adhere to laws, policies, procedures, and ethical standards of the school counseling profession
- Ability to conduct a yearly program audit to review extent of program implementation and effectiveness
- Ability to collect and analyze data to guide program direction and emphasis
- Ability to measure results of the comprehensive school counseling program activities and share results as appropriate with relevant stakeholders
- Ability to monitor student academic performance, behavior, and attendance and facilitate appropriate interventions
- Ability to participate with Johnston County Schools Medicaid Billing Program for eligible Medicaid students
- Ability to participate in the Random Moment Time Studies for Medicaid Reimbursable services
