Job Summary
Provide individual and group counseling to students addressing personal, social, academic, and emotional challenges while offering crisis intervention for immediate behavioral needs. Develop and implement counseling programs that support student achievement, conduct assessments to identify needs, and create customized intervention plans. Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and parents to facilitate student success, maintain accurate confidential records, and advocate for appropriate resources. Facilitate workshops on mental health and coping strategies, ensuring a safe, positive environment through effective communication and cultural awareness. Maintain licensure and stay informed on best practices in student mental health within this unique educational program connecting individuals, communities, and the environment.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in School Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field
- Valid School Counselor Certification
- Master's degree, English major preferred
- Regular and predictable attendance
- Occasionally lift/move objects weighing up to 25lbs
- Stand and walk frequently
- Occasionally sit on the floor or bend down/squat
- Withstand all demands presented by outside weather conditions at any time of the year
- Withstand a moderate noise level
- Be able to perform first aid/CPR if necessary
- Assist/lift students, as necessary
Desired Qualifications
- Previous experience in school counseling or a similar educational setting is preferred
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, staff, and parents
- Knowledge of counseling techniques, crisis intervention strategies, and student development theories
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively
- Cultural awareness and empathy towards students and families
- Critical thinking
- Participate in continuous professional development and maintain licensure/certifications as required
