Job Summary
Plan, develop, and implement all guidance programs in cooperation with the Headmaster and Program Director. Counsel students individually and in small groups to help them understand aptitudes and make educational and occupational choices. Interpret evaluative appraisals for students, faculty, and parents, and assist with student programming, record keeping, placement, and discharge. Design and implement educational and vocational information programs while building positive relationships with support service personnel to identify problems and design interventions. Provide college counseling and support for the college search and application process. Engage families to build collaborative relationships and share strategies for student learning at home. Regularly reflect on practice, seek feedback, and collaborate with colleagues to analyze student performance and plan interventions. Reports to the Principal/Head of School. Requires MA DESE School Counselor License, Master's degree, and experience with urban youth.
Required Qualifications
- MA DESE School Counselor License at the appropriate level
- Master's Degree in counseling, education or related field
- Ability to meet the BPS Standards of Effective Practice as outlined above
- Experience working with urban youth in an educational or human services setting
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with database management
- Demonstrated writing ability
- Fluency in one of BPS' official languages: Spanish, Creole (Cape Verdean), Creole (Haitian), Chinese, Vietnamese, Portuguese, & Somali
