Job Summary
School Counselor for the 2026-2027 school year guides 12th-grade scholars through the entire postsecondary process, including college list development, college applications, personal statement coaching, scholarship applications, and interview preparation; provides comprehensive academic counseling for grades 9-12, assists with financial aid processes (FAFSA, TAP, CSS Profile), interprets award letters, and supports decisions about college or non-college pathways; conducts SAT/ACT preparation logistics, writes official recommendation letters, and supports faculty in the recommendation process; uses data to inform advising strategies, collaborates with families, staff, and external partners to align postsecondary goals with scholars’ interests, strengths, and long-term plans, and oversees graduation eligibility, credit audits, and transitions for students toward postsecondary success.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in counseling, education, or related field
- Experience in high school college counseling, college admissions, or related advising role
- Strong writing and communication skills, including experience drafting recommendation letters
- Familiarity with FAFSA, TAP, CSS Profile, and college financial aid processes
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain accurate student records
- Ability to build trusting relationships with scholars and families from diverse backgrounds
- Knowledge of non-college pathways such as military service, vocational training, apprenticeships, and direct employment
