Job Summary

Prepare and serve lunches and snacks to students and staff, while assisting with food prep for events and maintaining a clean, organized kitchen and storage areas. Clean dishes, sweep and mop floors, dispose of waste properly, and manage deliveries using first-in-first-out protocols. Store and label food correctly, assist with serving, and perform additional tasks as requested by the Chef. This part-time role involves 32 hours per week with a prorated starting rate of $22 per hour. The position requires a high school diploma, two years of professional kitchen experience, and a Food Handlers Permit.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma / GED equivalent
  • At least 2 years of experience working in professional kitchens
  • Food Handlers Permit
  • Good Knife skills
  • Organized
  • Professional Communication skills
  • Ability to take direction
  • Must be able to perform repetitive tasks and stand for extended periods of time
  • Must have passion for food and food service
  • Required to frequently sit, stand, bend, stoop, walk and drive for extended periods
  • Ability to walk up and down stairs
  • Required to lift/move objects and/or youth weighing in excess of 40 pounds
  • Must possess the ability to provide physical restraint for students threatening to harm themselves or others
  • Must have the visual, hearing, and learning capabilities sufficient to perform the essential functions defined above
  • Must participate in physical education activities with the students and, if necessary, physically interact (intervene) with students
  • Must be available for school and vocational program days
  • Must be available for Maryville Walsh Academy fund raising events and activity leading up to those events
  • Must be able to work in and in association with the Maryville Walsh Academy, as well as in an administrative office setting
  • Must be able to handle contact with students who may be verbally and physically threatening, aggressive, suicidal and/or under the influence of drugs or alcohol

Desired Qualifications

  • Baking/ Pastry Experience
  • Catering/ institutional cooking experience
  • Food Protection Manager Certification
