Job Summary
Maintain student behavior and enforce safety rules by ensuring children remain seated, do not eat, and avoid harming themselves or peers. Recognize dangerous situations affecting student safety and report them immediately to the bus driver. After each route, assist the driver with spot inspections to confirm all children have exited the vehicle. Buckle students and operate safety equipment as required by law. Evacuate children during emergencies and assist the driver with directions per the route sheet. Perform physical tasks including lifting up to 50 pounds, entering/exiting vehicles repeatedly, and climbing stairs. Work split shifts for AM and PM routes with potential for additional hours.
Required Qualifications
- Must successfully complete all required pre-employment screening, including state and national criminal background checks, registry checks, drug testing, and any other screenings required by law, Connecticut DMV, school district policy, or DATTCO policy.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to enter and exit the vehicle repeatedly and perform required vehicle inspections.
- Ability to bend, kneel, reach, climb stairs, and use vehicle safety equipment.
- Ability to assist passengers during boarding, exiting, and emergency evacuations.
Desired Qualifications
- Previous work experience in a classroom or working with students.
