Job Summary
Maintain reasonable behavior and enforce safety rules by ensuring students remain seated, do not harm themselves or others, and do not eat on the bus. Recognize dangerous situations affecting child safety and report them immediately to the driver. After each school run, assist the driver with spot inspections to confirm all children are off the vehicle. Assist with buckling children, performing emergency evacuations, and providing directions based on the pre-determined route sheet. This role involves split shifts for AM and PM routes at DATTCO, a third-generation family-owned transportation company serving 30 Connecticut and Rhode Island school districts.
Required Qualifications
- Must successfully complete all required pre-employment screening, including state and national criminal background checks, registry checks, drug testing, and any other screenings required by law, Connecticut DMV, school district policy, or DATTCO policy.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to enter and exit the vehicle repeatedly and perform required vehicle inspections.
- Ability to bend, kneel, reach, climb stairs, and use vehicle safety equipment.
- Ability to assist passengers during boarding, exiting, and emergency evacuations.
Desired Qualifications
- Previous work experience in a classroom or working with students.
