Job Summary
Follow a planned bus route making scheduled stops to transport children to and from school while obeying all rules and regulations. Perform Pre and Post DOT inspections for mechanical defects and keep the assigned bus clean. Maintain discipline on the bus, report undisciplined students, and discharge students only at authorized stops. Communicate with the dispatcher via two-way radio, reporting delays, mechanical failures, emergencies, or accidents. Exercise responsible leadership during out-of-district trips and transport only authorized students and staff. Complete required reports for all accidents and violations of the student code. Must be 21 years or older, possess a high school diploma, and hold valid bus driver certification. Requires extensive knowledge of motor vehicle laws, drug screen, and physical exam compliance. Reports to the Director of Transportation with no supervision exercised.
Required Qualifications
- Must have a high school diploma, or equivalent
- Must be 21 years of age or older
- Must pass drug screen and physical exam in accordance with Department of Transportation requirements
- Compliance with all applicable federal, state, county, district, and contract specific Bus Driver requirements
- Walk, climb stairs, bend and lift up to 45lbs
- Prolonged periods of sitting while operating the bus
Desired Qualifications
- Previous bus driving experience is preferred
- Extensive knowledge of motor vehicle laws
- Excelled interpersonal and customer service skills
- Excellent time management skills
