School Bus Driver (Substitute)

Job Summary
Drive substitute school bus routes to safely transport students, including assisting with loading/unloading and operating fleet with manual or automatic transmissions. Responsibilities include reading route sheets, performing pre-trip/post-trip inspections, assisting students (including wheelchair lift), communicating with school personnel and parents, attending safety/training meetings, conducting emergency evacuations, cleaning the bus interior and exterior, and adhering to safety policies and OSHA guidelines. Requires an operator’s license with required endorsements and the ability to work early morning hours, read street signs, and follow route sheets. DOT physical and dexterity requirements apply; professional appearance and ability to work without direct supervision are expected. Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Operator’s license with required endorsements & other state or local permits as required
- Good verbal communication skills
- The ability to work early morning hours
- Must be able to work without direct supervision
- Professional and respectful attitude toward fellow employees and customers
- Dress in a professional and appropriate manner for a business environment
- Ability to use or learn to use internet and office equipment such as fax and phones
- DOT physical and dexterity testing required
- Ability to read street signs and route sheets
- English language communication with passengers, parents, school officials
- Pre-trip and post-trip inspections
- Emergency evacuation procedures
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and assist with wheelchair loading
- Safety compliance with OSHA guidelines
