Job Summary
The School Bus Driver CDL is responsible for safely transporting students, performing vehicle pre-checks, reporting vehicle deficiencies, and providing exceptional customer service to schools and students. Candidates must possess a valid driver's license, a clean driving history, and be at least 21 years old. Additional qualifications include the ability to communicate effectively, maintain safety protocols, and adhere to all relevant regulations. This position requires the ability to pass a DOT physical and flexible availability for varying shifts. The role does not involve supervisory responsibilities.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED
- Minimum age to drive – 21 years old
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions
- Able to write routine reports and correspondence
- Able to speak effectively and communicate on several levels (adults, children, management)
- Able to pass a DOT physical
- Valid driver’s license
- Clean Hawaii Driver History Record and Criminal Abstract
- Ability to upgrade to CDL
- First Aid, CPR Certified
- Pass DDC (Defensive Driving Course)
- Must meet/adhere to requirements of FMCSA, DOT, FTA, DOE as applicable
- Learn and pass test on Title 19
- Able to work flexible shifts – 24/7 availability for Midday and Late runs
Additional Requirements
- Must be able to stand, walk and sit for sustained periods of time
- Must have visual acuity to perform activities such as operating and repairing machines/equipment
- Subject to environmental hazards including moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, exposure to heat
- Requires expertise in dealing with people and situations involving complex issues
- Requires compliance with company Substance Abuse Policy and DOT regulations
