Job Summary
Cover classroom teachers, specialists, or teaching assistants daily based on school needs, delivering lesson plans and instructing students at designated times. Maintain the physical learning environment, prepare for assigned classes, and enforce school rules while protecting students, equipment, and facilities. Encourage high standards of behavior, maintain required records, and cooperate with staff and administration. Provide information regarding students and instruction, and perform related duties as assigned. This full-time role supports the division's anti-racism policy and diverse student community.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Prior teaching experience
- Eligible for a Virginia Teaching License
- CPR certification
- Ability to develop and maintain an empathetic attitude toward students
- Willingness to learn specialized instructional/management techniques
- Ability to communicate and develop effective working relationships with students, parents, and staff
- Willingness to seek and maintain CPR certification
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds
- Ability to lift equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
- Ability to move students by wheelchairs and other mechanical devices
- Ability to travel with students on field trips
- Ability to attend parent conferences, building-level meetings, and division-wide meetings and training activities beyond normal assigned hours
- Ability to perform daily personal close contact with children
- Ability to have regular contact with other staff members, parents, and medical professionals
- Ability to make contacts with community and division-level staff with considerable tact and diplomacy
- Ability to cooperate with other members of the staff
- Ability to provide information and seek clarity from school administration or designee
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative professional relations with others
- Ability to perform related duties as assigned by the administration
