Job Summary
Mentor new counselors within the home school by attending scheduled face-to-face, telephone, or video meetings at least once weekly, ensuring one monthly in-person visit for support rather than evaluation. Provide on-site guidance to mentees new to the profession, Berkeley County Schools, or returning after a break, while assisting with orientation prior to school starting. Maintain a Mentoring Log, submit documentation quarterly, and attend professional development sessions to align with county initiatives. Complete assigned training and support meetings with the Director of Academic Counseling. Available for commitments beyond the instructional day when necessary. Serve as a support role, not an evaluative one, while adhering to FERPA, Title IX, and mandated reporting laws.
Required Qualifications
- WV Professional School Counselor Certificate
- Minimum of three years of experience
- Successful evaluations for last three years of employment
- Currently working for Berkeley County Schools
- A strong understanding of Policy 2315, the Comprehensive School Counselor Plan
- A strong understanding of the West Virginia College and Career Readiness Dispositions and Standards for Student Success and how to implement them
- A strong understanding of the FERPA/Student Confidentiality, the Mandated Reporting Law and Title IX
- The ability to integrate technology into the delivery of a School Counseling Program
- The ability to motivate people
- The ability to be a team player
- An interest in assisting counselors new to the profession and new to the school
